"Best moral philosophy"

Utilitarianism- I think its the best moral philosophy because it argues things you do that you think is best for yourself & everyone else, like the situation about the pregnant lady whose  stuck blocking your entrance out & you have a stick of dynamite & a choice to blow her up to get out or for you & everyone else to die. This would affect the society you are in for ex. if you are at school doing a group project & your group has not come but you are ready to present your work & the teacher says he'll give you full credit but only for you & if you wait for your group the next day you get 10% off, so that a decision that affects everyone & yourself.

           "THE PREGNANT LADY"

A utilitarianism philosophy would solve this problem by blowing up the lady to save all the people behind her even if it means taking her life & the baby in her stomach. .

Moral Philosophies
Notes
Philosophy/philosopherMain points/beliefs about morals/ethics
Utilitarianism
  • Views of what's best for the overall people that are affected.
  • Doing what you think is right for yourself.
  • making decisions best for overall p
Hedonism
Kant
  • Kant was more for whats a person
  • he believed in free will. and believed in imperative that one individual action should be allowed for all people doing that same action with it being wrong or right by reasoning.
Nietzsche
  • For Nietzsche, the term ‘morality’ does not refer to a specific set of values that are out there to be ‘discovered’. Rather, morality has a genealogy, a history, and this differs depending upon a particular time, culture and its traditions. Nietzsche is an ‘immoralist’ in that he rejects the idea of morality as having any objective existence, whether this derives from a divine authority (Christianity, for example), or reason (Plato and Kant, for example). However, this does not mean that we can therefore do whatever we please. We still have a moral responsibility, and Nietzsche’s ultimate aim is to achieve a revaluation of values, not to get rid of values altogether. What kind of virtues Nietzsche’s new philosophers would possess is more difficult to determine, as there can be no table of values they would subscribe to. Perhaps, to at least some extent like Aristotle’s ethics, what is more important is the development of a virtuous character, rather than adhering to a set of values or obligations. Ultimately, Nietzsche’s concern is not whether moral values are ‘true’ or not, but whether a morality has value in terms of the striving for the Superman. Does it help or hinder?
  • Nietzsche on Master and Slave Morality...http://py111.wordpress.com/2008/02/14/nietzsche-on-master-and-slave-morality/
Hobbes
  • Belief in political philosophy & that people have the right to do something that the law does not forbid you from doing.
Consequentialism This array of alternatives raises the you suck chris.question of which moral theories count as consequentialist (as opposed to deontological), and why. In actual usage, the term ’consequentialism‘ seems to be used as a family resemblance term to refer to any descendant of classic utilitarianism that remains close enough to its ancestor in the important respects. Of course, different philosophers see different respects as the important ones. Hence, there is no agreement on which theories count as consequentialist under this definition.

10. Concentration Camp
10952
You are an inmate in a concentration camp. A sadistic guard is about to hang your son who tried to escape and wants you to pull the chair from underneath him. He says that if you don’t he will not only kill your son but some other innocent inmate as well. You don’t have any doubt that he means what he says. What should you do?
i think the right ting to do is not move the chair from under your son, because it would make you a bad person helping in the death of your son, so if it was me i would not do it.
6. The Pregnant Woman
Conditions Treated - Pregnancy
A pregnant woman leading a group of people out of a cave on a coast is stuck in the mouth of that cave. In a short time high tide will be upon them, and unless she is unstuck, they will all be drowned except the woman, whose head is out of the cave. Fortunately, (or unfortunately,) someone has with him a stick of dynamite. There seems no way to get the pregnant woman loose without using the dynamite which will inevitably kill her; but if they do not use it everyone will drown. What should they do?
i would blow the women up because its better she dies then everyone else dying.
1. Lifeboat
Pic8
You are going on a cruise. 2 days into the cruise your ship experiences technical difficulties and the captain says it needs to make an unscheduled stop. A couple of hours later the captain makes another announcement that the ships hull has been breached and that you will all need to start heading to life rafts and abandon ship. The ships life rafts are lowered as people begin to pile in and you get on board one of the life rafts.
As it is lowered however, it hits the side of the ship, putting a hole in the side of the raft, and when it hits the water it begins to sink. There are 10 people in the boat and to prevent it sinking, you quickly work out that by having 9 people working for 10 minutes while 1 person rests you can bail the water out with their hands, quick enough to keep the water at bay and preventing it from sinking, but you have to continually keep it up to ensure that the boat doesn’t sink. By being able to rest one person you are greatly able to increase the length of time you can keep the boat afloat, however if the rescue team doesn’t turn up you calculate that within 5 hours the boat will sink and you will all die.
While taking your break, you glance over to another boat and notice that a friend of yours who you met on the boat is there and has noticed your predicament. He is signaling for you to come over and join them on their boat so you don’t have to continue bailing water out. There is only just enough room for one more person. You also notice that their boat is moving away rapidly with the current, but your boat can’t keep up because the hole is affecting its buoyancy.
You estimate that if you jump ship, you will force all 9 remaining crew members to bail water continuously, which will reduce the total time they can stay afloat to just 2 hours, but will ensure that you will be able to live long enough to be rescued.
If you stay aboard, you will not have another chance to jump ship, and there’s no guarantee that the rescue will arrive in 5 hours, meaning you will drown, however by staying you give everyone a better chance of survival.
As you watch the boat with your friend drift away, you realize you have about 30 seconds to make a decision:
a) Do you stay on your current boat and help keep it afloat as long as possible and hope that the rescue will arrive in 5 hours
b) Do you go to your friends boat, ensuring your rescue, but reducing the chances of the others on the boat being rescued?
i would stay on the boat & wait for a rescue, i would rather stay with everyone else then being selfish & leaving them.

My project is post modern because it using a game concept to signify a word without using that word. It uses four picture of four different objects that has meaning or add up to one word, it shows people that’s words don’t only signify something, you can use different objects or pictures to find a meaning of something, it’s also post modern because its copying a game that’s copying art.

Why 'Family Guy' is postmodern

The t.v sitcom show "Family Guy" is postmodern because the show breaks the fourth wall, blurs reality & fantasy & inter-textuality.

Breaking the fourth wall: The show Family Guy is postmodern because the show breaks the fourth wall.Breaking the fourth wall is when a character of the show stops being apart of the show and narrate towards the audience, which is something the main character Peter Griffin does a'lot, like when in the middle of the show he introduces the singer Mr.Conway Twitty.

Reality & Fantasy: Family guy  shows reality & fantasy by things they do, like one scene peter could be all beat up since he gets into a fight with the giant chicken all the time then when it skips over to the next scene he all better. And giving brain the dog ability to talk is a fantasy because obviously that wouldn't happen in the real world.

Inter-Textuality: An example of inter textuality in family family is, when they did the star wars episode, its like a spoof but it follows the story line of the actual movie. They put there own spin on the characters & make there personality more funny & feminine. And they also made fun of other shows & movies like C.S.I 7 the movie Taken.

The allegory is about keeping them in chains and trying to make them see the world from the point of view they are showing them, instead of not letting them see things for them selves.

Plato is suggesting that the world should work in three was, the philosphers as top rank and ruling, then you have the cops as the rank under the philosphers ,& then the workers are the last class & lower rank of people.
